Is the TP-Link Archer good for gaming?
The TP-Link Archer A20 tri-band router isn’t cheap, but for its price it offers everything gamers are looking for, including flexible management features and very fast performance. But it also offers excellent security features, which broadens its horizons somewhat beyond just gaming power.
Does TP-Link have WiFi 6?
TP-Link’s WiFi 6 routers are compatible with all of your current WiFi devices and are the perfect routers to prepare for the future of your home by supporting new phones, laptops, and other WiFi 6 devices.
This bulky beast is equipped with eight large antennas and sports an eye-catching red and black paint scheme that evokes an “evil robotic spider”. There are practical advantages to this design. It can cover a large area and easily flood an average four-bedroom house with Wi-Fi. But you might prefer to hide this router, as it’s unlikely to blend in with your decor, unless you’re a Sith lord.
The 8-inch square enclosure has a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, a Gigabit WAN/LAN port, three Gigabit LAN ports and two USB ports (one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0) for connecting backup or media servers. A small triangular light on top lets you know it’s working.
The TP-Link Archer GX90 AX6600 Wi-Fi 6 Tri-Band Gaming Router is an interesting broadcaster…
On the one hand, it is the alter ego of the Archer AX90 – both share the same hardware specifications. On the other hand, as a gaming router, it resembles the Archer AX11000, both in looks, features and marketing strategy.
To put it bluntly, history repeats itself with the GX90: it too is not a gaming router, despite its appearance. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad router, far from it.
In fact, compared to its predecessors, this new tri-band Wi-Fi machine is a more refined experience. The GX90 performed well in my tests as a simple, general purpose home router. But as a gaming router, it doesn’t really have much to brag about, if anything at all.
Here’s the bottom line: If you’re looking for a well-rounded Wi-Fi 6 router for a mid-sized home at the friendly price of $250, the Archer GX90 won’t disappoint. It’s one of the best TP-Link routers, if not the best. And you can certainly play a ton of games with it.
